Where to Stay Near the Parroquia in San Miguel de Allende

Quick answer

If you want to stay near the Parroquia in San Miguel de Allende, stay in Zona Centro, the historic center around the main square. We're at Jesús 17, on a private cobblestone street close to the main square and the Parroquia: six suites around a courtyard with pools, a jacuzzi and lemon trees, breakfast included, and no car needed for the old town. Querétaro airport is about 1h20 away by road.

Stay in Zona Centro if the Parroquia is the point

The short answer: book in Zona Centro, the historic center that grows out from the main square and the Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel. That's where we are. Our door is at Jesús 17, on a private cobblestone street, close enough to the main square and the Parroquia that you'll find yourself walking past those pink towers several times a day without planning to.

This part of town is the reason San Miguel de Allende is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it's the San Miguel that Travel + Leisure named the most beautiful city in the world for 2024. Staying here means your evenings end with a walk home on foot, not a taxi ride back up the hill.

What the Parroquia actually is, and when to see it

The Parroquia is the church on the main square with the pink neo-Gothic towers, the silhouette you've already seen in every photo of San Miguel. It's the town's landmark and the easiest way to find your bearings: lose your way in Centro and you'll usually spot the towers above the rooftops.

Our advice is to see it twice. Once in the morning, before the square fills, when the stone is pale and the streets are still being swept. And once after dark, when the towers are lit and the square is at its liveliest. Neither visit needs a plan or a ticket. It's simply part of the walk.

What staying with us looks like

We're small on purpose: six suites, each sleeping two, around one courtyard. You come in off the cobblestones through the moon door, and the street noise drops away behind you.

The courtyard is where the house lives. There are pools and a jacuzzi beneath the double Chichimeca staircase, lemon trees, and a living room for slow afternoons. You're always welcome in the courtyard.

The suites each have their own character and their own name:

Suite Size View
Master Suite 779.52 sq ft Garden
Genesis Suite 679.52 sq ft Pool
Cóatl Suite 513.11 sq ft City and garden
Alma Suite 466.50 sq ft Garden
Ollín Suite 389 sq ft Garden
Aura Suite 260.37 sq ft City, garden and pool

Every suite has 24-hour air conditioning, custom artwork and a spa-like bathroom. The Master, Alma and Cóatl suites also have a fireplace, which earns its keep on San Miguel's cool evenings. The art is worth a slow look: Pedro Friedeberg's surreal motifs run through the courtyards and suites, including the Aztec monkey reliefs over the fireplace in the Alma Suite and the mural in the Aura Suite.

Breakfast here, dinner out in Centro

Breakfast is included. A continental breakfast is served each morning on the terrace, and it's the gentlest way we know to start a day in San Miguel.

We don't have a restaurant, and that's deliberate. Staying this close to the main square, dinner is a short walk away, and our concierge keeps a handpicked list of partner restaurants around town. Tell us what you're in the mood for and we'll book the table. Consider it done.

We can also arrange massages and facials in your suite (we don't have a spa), and our experiences program, The Voyage Within, plans outings across five streams: Nurture, Explore, Create, Connect and Savor.

Day trips from the historic center

Staying in Centro doesn't mean staying put. Two towns the concierge sends people to most often:

  • Dolores Hidalgo: about 30 minutes from us by road. A small town that's easy to do in a morning and be back in the courtyard by mid-afternoon.
  • Guanajuato Capital: about an hour away. It deserves a full day, so leave after breakfast and come home for a late dinner in San Miguel.

We can organize both through The Voyage Within, with the driving taken care of.

Know before you book

A few honest notes, so nothing surprises you:

  • Steps and stone: there are no elevators in the house for structural reasons, and San Miguel's colonial streets are hilly with steps and stone paths. Comfortable flat shoes help.
  • Adults and older children: we welcome guests aged 12 and over. The house is quiet, and we ask that phones stay on silent in shared spaces.
  • Payment: we're cash-free and take all major credit cards. Rates are in U.S. dollars, with a 21% hospitality tax and a 40 USD per night destination fee added.
  • Times: check-in is at 3:00 pm and check-out at 12:00 pm. Arriving early? We'll hold your luggage while you go out for a first walk to the square.
  • Pets: welcome, subject to our pet policy and the availability of pet-friendly rooms.

Getting here

Querétaro is the closest airport, about 1h20 by road. Bajío (León/Guanajuato) is about 1h40 and Mexico City about 3h30. Our concierge can arrange a private SUV transfer from any of the three, so the first person you meet is someone driving you to our door. Take your time, there's no rush here.
